Auld Lang Syne the New Years Song

newyear20122 150x150 Auld Lang Syne the New Years Song

The song we sing every New Years Eve called Auld Lang Syne  is considered the most recognized song no one knows.

Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and was later set to a folk wedding song to become the New Years Eve Song we sing today. It is well known in many countries, especially  in the English-speaking world but it was not until big band  leader leader, Guy Lombardo,  performed the tune for a radio broadcast in 1929  to celebrate the start of the New Year at the stroke of midnight, that it became the US tradition it is today.

Auld Lang Syne lyrics:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And auld lang syne!

Chorus.-For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne.

We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,

For auld lang syne.

Last night with the Help of the Muay Thai Class we moved almost everything off the floor including the mats.

Hopefully next week we will be able to frame the mats. It is safer, more aesthetically pleasing ang NO DUST BUNNIES under the mats!!!  Tomorrow I will seal the floor.

Our Dojo Mascott Goldie

Goldie L.A. Budo's Beloved Mascot

One of the best  from our Martial Art School

I know that many of you don’t know Goldie, our dojo dog, and I regret that our current group of martial art students and their parents did not get to know her. This morning at 2:10 Sophia was woken up by a single moan coming from L.A. Budo’s Dojo Mascot, Goldie Sophia woke me up and told me that Goldie was leaving us, and since she had been battling Lymphoma, I knew what that meant.  I rushed to her side and got there just as she was passing.  As Sophia and I were sitting with her as the remaining body heat left her.  I fondly remembered the day she came into our lives.  Our martial art school was still in Torrance and we were not yet called L.A. Budo but the South Bay Budokan (WAY too long of a name) and I was mopping the judo mat floor.  A golden and white colored ran in.  Surprised by our visitor, I shoo shooed her out.  She ran out the training area door, and ran into the front door and into the office.  Goldie sat down next to Sophia’s desk and gave her such sad eyes saying, “Please don’t send me away”.  Sophia took her to the vet while I taught the evening classes.  The next day we put up several flyers and after 2-weeks took them down knowing she was staying with us.

Over the years while our martial art school was still in Torrance, she stayed at the dojo roaming free during the day, and sitting in our000 0023 150x150 Our Dojo Mascott Goldie reception area greeted students coming into the dojo in the evening.  Over the years, she has given our students and their parents a lot of love and helped people get over the fear of dogs.  She treated the martial art students who were children like her pups, looking after them.

When we moved to Manhattan Beach and changed our martial art school’s name to L.A. Budo, Goldie was able to only able to come during special occasions like our holiday party.  We did not have the office to let Goldie hang out in.

Goldie had a farewell party at home last week and she received lots of love from family and friends.  In her lastgoldiehalloween Our Dojo Mascott Goldie week Goldie went to her favorite parks, and went to the beach and even watched a soccer game.  She started get worse 2 days ago, and passed in her sleep with her cat brother Tigger alerting us she was going.

To all those that loved her she will be missed
